Thank You whoever did this site! Iv'e known Pam and Roger since the mid-60"s. We had a band called "The Pleasure Machine" In Milan Italy. Tony Head was lead singer, Bob? on keyboard and "Pupo" ?on drums (our Italian member) We have great memories of those times. Opened for Procal Harum (sp}???? and Pam reminds me today in a letter of the pension on Rovello St. Red light district. Lots of acrobats and various entertaining personalities (shall we say). Pam used to get chased down the Street by the hookers after dinner (in the wee hours) as she was this tall beautiful blonde with short hair. Such fun, mostly. We( Pam and I now)are still in touch, and great friends after all these years! Love You and the boys! Cathryn-Cathy(to you only).

Dear Pam, I don't know if you remember me, but I was married to Bobby Patrick and you and I knew each other quite well. My daughter Emma is the same age as your son Marcus. I was devastated to come across the news of Roger's death, and so just wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to you and the boys. I lost my own dear husband some years ago, and understand just what you are going through. My thoughts are with you all. God bless you.

I used to see Roger play at the old Red Lion in Brentford in the very early 70s, Telecaster, Vox Amp and Schaller Roto Box, fantasic player, always made your jaw drop. He walked into my music shop in Hanwell in 1976 and I blurted out "Your'e Roger Dean" his immediate response was "Do I owe you money?"
We became good friends and he often hung out in the shop when not on the road or cruise. He played with us (Ivors Jivers) on several occasions at the Swan in Fulham Broadway bringing class to a bunch of rabble. Years later he helped me out by depping when my other guitar player could not make a gig and he was as amazing as always. A stunning all rounder, a real gentleman and friend. He is greatly missed. My sincere condolences to his family.

Having played pedal steel with the Roxon Roadshow on many occasions, it was always a great experience to play alongside Roger. Now having 'retired' and living in France, it was with deep sadness that I read that Roger had passed away last year. He will always be fondly remembered, my belated sincere condolences to Pam and sons. Barry

Well thanks guys but I really can't take all the credit. I seem to remember Dean made a phone call. :o)
I really do need to thank John and Jane Dunsterville for the work they put into the evening and also the guys at Dusty's, Geoff, Ron and Derek as well as John's band and all the people who allowed their kit to be used by "oiks"!
It was a really good evening so final thanks have to go to all those who turned up and those who played. A little more practice and you might be really good :o)

What can I say, The Roger Dean night, and what a night it was too, I would like to thank everybody for making this night what it was and especially Gill as we both spent many an hour on the phone and emailing people and I know me personally I have met some lovely people and Gill, I'm your number one fan!! It was lovely to see so many old faces, people like Micky Byrne (what a player), Rod Clarke (what a comedian! and a bloody good bass player and singer too), Alex Chanter, Gerry Hogan, Simon Bishop, The amazing Bob Pearce, Gus Yorke, and the unforgettable John Dunsterville (Dusty) Who I'd like to thank personally for the use of his club and all the other musicians, there are way too many to mention. I can tell you that £235 was raised on the night and was taken to Ealing Hospice today by myself and Pam. So what do you think about opening a Roger Dean Cancer Charity of some sort and doing this once a year? Roger was one of the best a proper leg-end! and I think everyone will agree he should be remembered.

Dear Gill, Thank you for the invitation to Dusty's club for the rememberance of Roger Dean whom we all held great respect. It was also nice to meet Pam and his sons personally. It was also nice to meet you for the first time, then later on to meet so many friends from yesteryear. I do hope it was a rememberable evening for all who showed up, and that it enabled a nice collection for the hospice where Rog spent his last days. All the best to all I met there, both old friends and new.

Dear mrs. Dean,
I visited Mr. Dean's site a while ago after reading his reply to a review of A John Mayall CD. I do not quite remember what the reviewer had written but he obviously was ill informed (read: ignorant) and your husband set the record straight. I wrote my own review more or less in support of Mr. Dean. After that I visited this web site and left a message. I was pleasantly surprised that Mr. Dean took the time to write a nice reply. Encouraged I replied but there was no message forthcoming after that. Then, after quite a while, I got a message from him that he had been in the hospital for an operation but he would get back to me as soon as he felt better.
And now, while browsing the internet and again visiting this web site I learn that your husband has passed away. My condoleances, however late, are heartfelt. I hope you, Marcus & Matt have found a way coping with the loss of a husband and father.
My apologies for any mistakes in my message, I'm Dutch.
Best regards from Assen, The Netherlands,
Gert Eggens

Dusty's gig was cast as a "celebration" of Roger's life, and wasnt it just! It was exactly the right thing to do to give us all fantastic memories of his life's passion and achievements, and to pay homage to his career and prodigious talent. Thanks Gill for all your work - didnt you do well!
As neighbours for nearly twenty years we became freinds, and I got to hear many of his favourite stories, often over a couple of pints. I enjoyed his company immensely, and always felt privileged when I would pop into his house and he'd just pick up one of his acoustics and pick out something he was working on with consummate ease, or head on over to his PC to show me his latest arrangements.
He loved to play, but I was always taken with his passion for teaching . He was a skilled and excellent teacher - I think I recall that all his music students got A's in their results. He was so proud of that.
He gave so much in everything he did, a consumately generous-spirited chap with a kind word and time for everyone - apart for Jimi H and Lonnie D perhaps... I loved his humour, joie de vivre and wonderful sense of mischief.
He lives on for us all, through his musical legacy; through the pupils and friends whom he touched and guided, through his warm and loyal friendships with so many people. And most all through Pam, Matt and Marcus. Our thoughts are with you. Be strong.
I shall miss you, Rog mate. Have a sip of nectar for me.
Peter
I'll miss you mate.

Dear Gil
What a wonderful night at Dustys. Thank you so much for all your administration and organisation skills. I do hope I didn’t look too stupid breaking down at the microphone but I had been to my brother in laws funeral earlier that day which was very moving and emotional for me (Robert was only 55!) and was only persuaded to attend last night by my family and thank fully I did. I would be most grateful if you can send me any photos that you may have. Please pass on my kindest wishes to Pam and the family. If you decide to do any further benefit gigs for Rogers’s hospice or Cancer Research etc please count me in.
Kindest regards
Bob

Roger was such an encouragement to me. He arranged several pieces for me. The last piece he arranged was 'The prayer of Jabez'. I have just finished it in the studio. It is so beautiful. Sadly he never heard it. Roger is playing solo on it. It moved me to tears when I heard it.If anyone would like a copy to remember Roger by please feel free to do so. I will give Gill Lucraft the details of how to download it over the internet.Roger was a real gentleman, patient and kind ,a wonderful musician and a family man.Thankyou Roger for your many gifts which you so readily shared. Pam, I have also written the words to the melody that Roger wrote. I will forward it to you. Roger co wrote two more pieces which I will also forward to you. Roger, you and your family are very much in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless you.
